Just few weeks ago, some media published scary articles about ibuprofen. Titles like “Common painkillers such as ibuprofen could raise risk of heart failure by up to 83%”. Later, in other publication it was toned down to “20%”.
I am always suspicious of such bold claims, published not in a medical journal but in newspapers of large circulation. And I always check the facts with reputable sources, like the U.S. National Library of Medicine. So, here’s what I’ve learned1:
- There is a class of painkillers known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) commonly prescribed for people with joint problems, backache and arthritis. They are prescribed to relieve pain and reduce inflammation.
- Ibuprofen may increase the chance of heart problems by just 18%.
- The highest risk is for people that take NSAIDs daily and in high doses.
Then the question is: Should you be worried or not? The standard disclaimer applies: Talk to your doctor.
Of course as a professional hypnotherapist specialising in pain management I am very tempted 🙂 to promote hypnosis as a complementary therapy, as a way to reduce pain and medication. There is a huge body of research showing it’s effectiveness2. And when you’ll want to experience this, get a medical referral first, and then contact me for questions and free advice.
What hypnosis really is: just an effective way to train your mind. Then you’ll have it forever with you. Because you can’t forget it. And they can’t make it illegal 🙂 And there is nothing more natural than using your mind.
And the best part? You’ll never know how far the change will take you.
